So I've been working on spinning some lovely hand-dyed blue fiber that's 80% Merino and 20% bamboo rayon (if I remember right), with the intent of knitting something small with some of it. Glad I finally finished that up. It was somewhat frustrating to spin, as man-made plant fibers tend to have trouble sticking together without a lot of twist and bamboo rayon is no exception to this rule.
So then I started spinning this lovely 75% BFL (aka Bluefaced Leicester, a kind of longwool that's very soft while still retaining the lovely luster longwools generally have) and 25% silk (yum.) blend (in various shades of red) and it's just such a lovely thing to work with (I'm now using it to knit another cowl 8D).
having now spun and knitted with BFL quite a bit now...I think it's safe to say that atm BFL is my favorite breed of wool to spin. It's soft enough to wear, but it has a lovely pearly luster that I just adore (that merino just doesn't have).
YUM.
